Sustainability initiatives

At AiP we are serious about sustainability. Our goal is to be an environmentally conscious caterer, committed to enhancing our catering service for both people and the planet. One way we’re doing this is by measuring, reporting, and reducing our carbon footprint by sourcing locally, seasonally and ethically along with taking initiatives such as utilising shorter supply chains, using wonky vegetables and digital pre-ordering and waste tracking systems. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strive for carbon neutrality status by 2025.

How do you benefit local communities in Herefordshire?
To benefit our communities, we reflect culture through using local suppliers, creating vibrant, diverse food experiences, working hard to cut down on food miles, wastage and supporting small to medium businesses in the area.
What allergens do you cater for in Herefordshire schools?
We cater for all 14 major allergens through our stringent allergen policies in the kitchens. We also encourage schools to be open about medically specific allergens that are not covered in the major 14 so that we can support them, ensuring a safe environment for all pupils.
Does your menu reflect the diverse cultures of your pupils?
At AiP, we know that not one menu fits all, so we collaborate with schools to customise menus that fit their school’s diverse personality and ensure that all pupils and staff are represented within our menus.
Do you have any administrative systems in place for school catering?
Our digital solutions system allows for clear insight into pupils eligible for free school meals. Using School Food United, we are able to access child information to see allergen updates, FSM eligibility and class moves.
What sustainability targets do you have in place in Herefordshire?
Our net-zero mission is a top priority, where we commit to being carbon neutral and cutting our greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2045. We also aim to reduce our food waste by 50% for 2025.
