Sustainability initiatives

At AiP sustainability is at the heart of our mission, and achieving net zero is our priority. We are committed to delivering a better service by measuring, reporting, and reducing our carbon footprint. We aim to become carbon neutral by 2025 and to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2045.

To reach net zero, we focus on reducing, rather than offsetting, our carbon emissions, with our short- and long-term targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Recognising the link between food waste and carbon emissions, we have set an ambitious goal to reduce our food waste by 50% by 2025, using digital pre-order and waste tracking technology to minimise food wastage in Brent’s schools.

Allergen management

We understand the importance of allergen management in ensuring a safe dining experience for all pupils. That’s why we have implemented a stringent allergen management policy, which includes offering allergen-free menu options and utilising the School Food United platform for easy allergen tracking and ordering. Our team works closely with schools in Brent to identify students with dietary restrictions, ensuring that meals are prepared, stored, and labelled separately with dedicated utensils as required.

Food safety and nutritional standards

With the support of our expert nutritionists, we create a balanced and nourishing meal service tailored to students’ lifestyles which goes beyond Government School Food Standards. We continually seek new ways to inspire healthy eating, offering chef-led sugar swap classes throughout the academic year to promote healthier choices in Brent’s schools.

Is food prepared on-site or delivered?
We can prepare food on and off-site, depending on the needs of the schools we cater for. Some smaller schools may not have the facilities to prepare on-site. This is where our Community Kitchen comes in handy.
How do you involve pupils in menu development?
We encourage schools to share an open dialogue with their pupils to gather feedback that will help us shape menus to fit the pupils we serve. We value this feedback and work with top nutritionists to turn it into healthy and exciting meals.
What primary school catering services do you offer?
Our Primary school catering service is Food Smart. A programme that emphasises the importance of fun food and creating unforgettable meal times while instilling healthy practices.
Do you offer vegetarian and vegan options in your menus?
Our menus offer at least 2 vegetarian options per day, with one choice also being vegan. This ensures inclusive choices and helps cater for those with dietary restrictions also.
What allergens do you cater for in Brent schools?
Our stringent allergen policies cover all 14 major allergens and can be altered for lesser-known allergens. We ask schools to be transparent about medically specific allergens so that we can ensure a safe environment for our pupils.
