At AiP, we know that preparing pupils for life beyond school isn’t just about academic lessons but also supporting them with practical skills they’ll need to live independently. Our Mastering Uni Life workshop teaches students essential kitchen skills, how to prepare balanced meals, and ways to manage food on a budget. The session equips pupils with the confidence to cook for themselves, make healthy choices, and navigate everyday meal planning with ease.
Our structured 1-hour session helps students develop essential life skills in a hands-on and interactive way, covering key areas that will serve them well beyond school. Here’s a look at what’s covered in the Uni Life Workshops.
- Basic Cooking & Knife Skills
Pupils gain confidence handling knives safely, learning how to chop, slice, and prepare ingredients. These foundational skills give them the skills to cook meals from scratch rather than relying on ready-made options. - Budget-Friendly Meals
Students discover practical, affordable recipes using everyday ingredients. They learn how to plan and prepare meals that are not only quick and easy but also cost-effective, helping them manage a student budget without sacrificing flavour or nutrition. - Nutrition Know-How – Pupils explore what makes a balanced meal and how to make healthier choices. From understanding protein, carbs, and fats to building meals that fuel their bodies, they gain the knowledge to eat well and maintain energy throughout busy days.
By the end of the workshop, students leave with:
- More confident and comfortable in the kitchen – ready to try new recipes and cook independently
- A set of go-to meals – practical, achievable dishes they can cook anytime
- Everyday life tips – strategies for saving money, reducing food waste, and making the most of ingredients while keeping meals nutritious and enjoyable.
